Hi, I’m Elizabeth Valko .
I love what I do!
About Me
I am a veteran, a military spouse, and a military child. I have been a nurse, a volunteer, a student, a mom, a spouse, a pseudo-social worker, a paraprofessional, and now a teacher. I have lived in many states and a couple of different countries. My husband retired from the military, and now we are here in beautiful Colorado.
I have a background in psychiatry and maternity nursing. As we moved around, it turned out that the fast pace of the hospital just did not appeal to me. I have always enjoyed teaching. I loved biology and thought that I would teach that. That path was interrupted when we lived overseas. I thought I would take it up again when we came back to the U.S. I took a job as a significant support needs (SSN) paraprofessional so that I could work while my child finished school and I figured out what I wanted to do.
I never thought I would be working in special education, but I have found a community I love. My students have taught me so much about what is most important, and I cherish the time I have spent and will spend with each one of them.
I am currently a substitute teacher and sometimes a substitute paraprofessional. I am working toward a master’s degree in special education so that I can be the best special education teacher that I can be. I am waiting for my child to graduate high school this year before possibly taking on a full-time position. I am so excited to start this next chapter of my life.
